Focus on the Fabulous
Congratulations to our very own Chasey Blach who is highlighted in the Adams State Student Teacher Spotlight this week! Chasey is a great addition to our 4th-grade team and has brought a lot of positive energy to our already amazing Haskin team. She is a natural in the classroom, sets high expectations for her students, and gives them the support they need to be successful. We are glad to have you here in Center! Way to represent Chasey!
Congratulations are also in order to three of our Viking Football players on their selections to the All Valley Team. Cael Ruggles had a great senior year and was selected to the 1st team defense. Aaron Valadez was also recognized for his defensive skills and was nominated to be a part of the 2nd team defense. Jesus Valadez was selected for the 2nd team offense. Congratulations to each of them for their hard work and dedication throughout the season. We are proud of you.
We had several high school students who presented, along with Mrs. Ruggles, at Ft. Lewis College last week. Alan Gonzalez, Miguel Casanova, Cruz Reyes, Alexia Badachi, and Cameron Garcia presented at the PWR Symposium and shared about the Post-Secondary and Workforce Readiness opportunities that are in place at Center Schools. Students discussed how ICAP days are structured for middle school and high school students. They also shared about their Capstone Projects. Center Schools is leading the way in postsecondary efforts and that is why our students are asked to present at events like this one. Our students are developing essential skills including problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration, teamwork, time management, inquiry, and analysis, to name a few. These skills will be integral to their success in the real world.
Rewind
Last Tuesday was Election Day. Mr. Vigil made sure our students’ voices were heard as they got out to vote! By voting, our students are participating in the democratic process. We vote for leaders to represent us and our ideas. It’s important that our younger generation is involved in this process so that their views matter. To quote Barack Obama. “You wouldn’t let your grandparents pick your playlist. Why would you let them pick your representative who’s going to determine your future?’ As you can see by the results, and those that we are still waiting on, every vote counts! Way to go Mr. Vigil!
Even though we have a little break in high school sports, our younger Vikings are proving to be champions. The girls 5th and 6th-grade parks and rec team wasundefeated in the season and won the championship. They were coached by our very own Joe Martinez. The 3rd and 4th-grade girls’ team came in second, coached by Stacy Maldonado. Way to go ladies! I see greatness in your future! Our 8th-grade boys’ basketball team, coached by Mr. Noriega, is currently undefeated, having beaten both Sanford, Alamosa, and Crested Butte. Great job boys! Keep it up.
