Focus on the Fabulous

Center staff and students successfully completed the first round of state assessments last week. The Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) assess student growth and performance in math, literacy, and science for grades 3–11, providing an important opportunity for students to demonstrate the learning that has taken place throughout the year. Testing will continue this week, with Haskin Elementary completing additional assessments and high school students participating in the PSAT and SAT.

Thank you to our staff who went the extra mile to create a positive testing environment- decorating hallways, providing fun treats, and encouraging students every step of the way. We also appreciate our teachers' flexibility in adjusting schedules, consolidating classes, and supporting proctoring efforts. It truly takes a team effort to ensure everything runs smoothly.

A special shout-out to Mr. Noriega for restructuring his classes to bring middle school and elementary students together in collaborative ensembles, an excellent example of flexibility and innovation. It was also great to see our primary students cheering on older students, creating a supportive and motivating atmosphere across grade levels.

We are grateful to our parents and families for their support in making sure students were present, well-rested, and ready to do their best each day.

Kudos to our facilities team for their outstanding work in maintaining our grounds. The campus is looking fantastic, with green, healthy grass already neatly maintained.  It’s one of the best-looking campuses in the San Luis Valley!

We will continue to focus on the goals outlined in our District Ownership Plan (DOP). The District Ownership Team (DOT) will review these goals at Wednesday’s meeting and assess the progress made so far this year.

District Ownership Plan at Work

Priority #1- Curriculum and Instruction

CCSD staff lead rigorous, engaging, collaborative learning experiences in every classroom that align with CCSD Instructional Expectations.

As of last week, 241 classroom observations have been conducted by the administration, and 75 lesson plans have been reviewed.  Teachers are doing an excellent job getting objectives and DFAs posted and have maintained a 98.5% average for the second semester.  Teachers are also doing an excellent job with culture and climate in the classrooms with a 100% rating in this area.

Priority #2 – Postsecondary and Workforce Readiness (PWR)

CCSD develops hardworking learners who are contributors, problem solvers, effective communicators, and future-ready with the skills needed to succeed.

As we move through the fourth quarter, students are preparing for some of our culminating end-of year events.  The Senior Exit Interviews are scheduled for May 18th, and they are always a highlight of the school year.  Haskin staff have continued to support the Viking Profile characteristics in their weekly communication, embedding the language into the Super Viking Habits of Character and reinforcing those standards with the elementary students.

A shoutout to Gabriela for expanding her talents and pursuing a new venture with her very own food truck! We’re proud to call her one of our own and grateful that she continues to share her talents with our food services department. It’s exciting to see her take this next step and spread her wings. She was out serving at our baseball and soccer games this weekend, and we wish her all the best in this new adventure!

Priority #3 – Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)

CCSD maintains high expectations for student learning and behavior, with structures in place to support all students' needs.

Our MLT has been working hard throughout the year, reinforcing positive behaviors while putting the necessary supports in place to help ALL students succeed and achieve at high levels.  The MLT will be meeting this week to review goals and assess progress.

Priority #4- Recruitment and Retention (R&R)

CCSD is committed to attracting, training, and retaining highly qualified teachers, knowing that effective educators are the single most important school-based factor in student success.

Martina and Lindsay attended a 3rd Teacher Fair, another at UNC in Greeley.  The ladies did a great job promoting the district and brought home 15 potential applicants.  We are signed up to attend the Becoming A Teacher in the SLV later this month. Joann Lopez will be representing our district at this event.
