Focus on the Fabulous

Our Center Viking athletes had a stellar week last week! Both the boys' and girls' basketball teams earned exciting victories over Monte Vista. The girls played hard throughout the match and came up with the W and a final score of 36-33! Alexis Varela and Alicia Rios were the top scorers with 16 and 10 points respectively. The boys played an equally exciting game and beat the Pirates 44-43! The boys showed their determination and grit as they started the game a few men down and played strong with a roster of seven. Victor Almeida was on fire with five three-pointers and a total of 27 points! Cael Ruggles, Mark Maldonado, and Abraham Echauri also got on the board. Great job Vikings!

Last week the wrestling team battled in the Fight at the Fork at Hotchkiss. The Vikings represented well at this competition and we ended up with two champions, Omar Hernandez and Jordan Duran, a 3rd place finish- Lorenzo Trujillo and three 4th place finishes- Martin Palma, Andre Meraz, and Jesus Valadez. As a team, the Vikings placed 6th out of 18 teams!

Rewind

Friday, January 21st, our staff participated in a professional development day. We are fortunate to have the various skills and areas of expertise on our staff. The secondary staff started the morning with Kevin Hagan leading an engaging session on Thinking Strategies and Workshop Model. Mimi Dolan followed with an informative session focused on Project Based Learning.

Elementary staff gathered in the library with Stephanie Hensley leading the Informational Writing Session. Gabe Swanson supported that work providing an example of how the compare and contrast structures could be used in a music class. In the afternoon, Kevin Hagan, Alex Magness, and Julio Paez conducted a Promethean Board onboarding session for the new Activ Panels. Staff also had time to work on their curriculums and the Canvas platform. All in all, it was a productive day filled with useful information and strategies to support our staff in their commitment to excellence in all they do every day!

The administration team met during the Admin. PLC. This time is spent discussing roles as instructional leaders and looking at observational round data. Dr. Hensley had the team read an article focusing on the importance of principal leadership. This was a positive time of collaboration and reflection.

The District Leadership Team also met this past week. This team guides the work of the district, using the District Action Plan, which is focused on our top five district initiatives. DLT members are Tara Phillips, Kevin Jones, Jared Morgan, Kindra Rounds, Krystal Bouet, Stephanie Hensley, Linda Donaldson, and Carrie Zimmerman.

Forward Focus

We have shifted to online instruction for our third week in the semester due to an increase in Covid cases in our district. Staff had the opportunity to prepare for online instruction on Monday, and Tuesday- Thursday, students will attend classes remotely.

The third convening of the Rural Superintendents Academy is taking place this week. I will be participating remotely.

Mid-year evaluations are in full swing and will be completed by the end of the month.

I had the chance to get into some elementary classrooms last week and saw some great instruction!

It is evident that teachers are working hard so that All of our students can achieve at high levels and be successful in life!
