Focus on the Fabulous

We are excited that work has begun on the new track and field.  Hellas Construction was on site this past week and began the process of tearing out the old track!  Chris Segura is helping out and was able to take down the old scoreboard.  Everybody is pitching in to move this project forward!  This is an exciting time for our district and the community!

Mrs. Werner and her ARC students put together a fun Easter egg hunt for our preschool and toddler students. The kids had a fantastic time visiting the Easter bunny and hunting for eggs!

Thanks to Mrs. Werner and her students for planning a fun event for our young Vikings!

Vikings in the News

Alicia Rios earned yet another award this past week. She was invited to play in the CHSCA All-State games. As a result of her outstanding senior season, her coach nominated her and the CHSCA selected her as one of the top senior girls' basketball players in the state of Colorado. She will represent Center and participate in the games on June 11th and 12th at CSU Pueblo. Congratulations, Alicia! We are proud of all you have accomplished!

Two of our Viking wrestlers have committed to compete at Trinidad State College next year.  Congratulations to Jordan Duran and Jesus Valadez on this accomplishment.  We look forward to following them as they compete at the next level!  Onward and upward Vikings!

Rewind

Secondary students participated in our ICAP activities on Thursday. They had the opportunity to attend a job fair and listen to Kantis Simmons, a fantastic motivational speaker.

All of these efforts support the district's work toward Post-Secondary and Workforce Readiness.

The District Ownership Team had its monthly meeting on Wednesday.  The team reviewed the District Ownership Plan (DOP) and reported on progress toward each initiative.  As we draw closer to our annual state assessments, it’s important to remember the goals that we have set for our students and our district.  Our goal by 2027 is to have 50% or more of our students meeting or exceeding state expectations in academic achievement and academic growth.  Last year, our district rating was 42.3%, 1.7%age points away from the next higher rating.  44% will earn the district an accredit with an improvement rating, and 56% will be accredited. Let’s make sure that we are focused, our students are prepared, and we all give 100% so that our scores show all the good work that our instructional staff has been doing and the learning that is taking place in our district on a daily basis!

Thanks to Chris Hintz for all her work behind the scenes getting ready for the annual assessments. She organizes all of the testing material, trains staff appropriately, and ensures schedules are in place and things are ready to go.

On Thursday, the Calendar Committee met to put together the school calendar for next year. This process is much more streamlined, as we’ve had several years to perfect it. The calendar will be presented to the Center BOE next week for approval.
