Focus on the Fabulous
Haskin Elementary once again delighted the audience with their festive Winter Concert. The kids sounded amazing and, as always, Mr. Swanson coordinated and conducted an impressive mix of Christmas favorites and toe-tapping tunes that everybody enjoyed! The choreography of the kids, the fa-la-la-la-la-ing of the Christmas Crooners, and the overall production of the entire concert left the audience cheering for more! It was a fabulous concert and a great way to kick off the Christmas festivities!
There were several athletic successes for our Viking athletes once again this week! Our Viking wrestlers were solid competitors at the Badger Invitational in Limon and earned 2nd place as a team! Michael Archuleta, Fran Villa, Aaron Valadez, and Andre Meraz all took 1st place in their respective weight classes. Jordan Duran, Nic Palma, Caden Ruggles, Jesus Valadez, and Martin Palma all made it onto the medal stand! Congratulations to all competitors.
Center hosted the annual VAA Basketball tournament this weekend and our JV boys won the tournament. Center came out on top after an exciting championship game against Centauri. Way to go boys! We are proud of you!
Vikings in the News
The Center Elementary Christmas Concert was highlighted in the December 2nd edition of the Valley Courier. Mr. Swanson and his students showed their appreciation to Mary McClure and the Eileen G. Kerr Children’s Foundation for their donation of scarves which were part of the Christmas concert!
In the December 6th edition of the Valley Courier Viking athletes were recognized for their accomplishments and being named All-League selections. Jesus Valadez and Luis Valadez were first-team players. Jordan Duran and Caden Ruggles made the second team, and Devan Thompson, Lorenzo Trujillo, and Francisco Villa were honorable mentions. Lady Vikings Ximena Miranda and Ciara Paiz were both second-team All-League players.
The December 8th Valley Courier paper included an article on the annual Sharing Christmas event that Ms. Banning coordinates each year to support our community families.
The Viking wrestlers’ success at the Fowler tournament was featured in the December 9th paper.
It’s great to see some of the amazing things going on in our district shared in our local papers. We appreciate Marie McColm showing an interest in our district and sharing the great work being done by Center Viking students and staff!
Rewind
The annual Colorado Association of School Boards conference was held this past week. Our school board attended along with six of our high school students.
Ahyani Fimbres Navarro, Devannie Nunez Fierro, Elijah Swanson, Leilany Soto, Isis Soto Gonzalez, and Selah Harrington attended the student strand of the conference and did an amazing job representing our district.
A huge shout out to Ms. Hays who sponsors the students on this trip every year so that they can participate in this incredible opportunity. Not only did we have students participating, but senior Selah Harrington was selected to be one of the student strand organizers. Selah worked hard for the last several months in helping to organize and lead the student component of the conference.
Fast Forward
The November election yielded a slight change in our Board of Education. Enrique Aguilar, who has done a fantastic job serving on the board for the last eight years, was term-limited out. We will be recognizing his commitment to our district at the Tuesday BOE meeting. Richie Barela is not a new face on the Board, as he has served in the past, but he was elected once again and he will fill the vacancy left by Mr. Aguilar. Lloyd Garcia and Kim Duran were re-elected to their positions, and Mr. Bogle will remain on the Board until the end of his term in 2025. The members were all sworn in this past week.
We are winding down the first half of the year, but things are not slowing down. Take a look at upcoming events!
