Focus on the Fabulous - December 1, 2021
Last night Center Schools held a Special Board Meeting. The purpose of this meeting was to deliver the Certificates of Election to the new BOE members, administer the Oath of Office to the newly elected members, and conduct Board reorganization. Mr. Lyn Bogle and Mrs. Misty Palacios were sworn in as they both retained their seats on the school board for another four years.
The reorganizational meeting included the election of officers. Mr. Bogle was once again nominated and elected as the Board President. Misty Palacios will continue to serve as the Board Vice President and Enrique Aguilar will take the position of Board Secretary/Treasurer. Lloyd Garcia and Kim Duran will serve as Board Directors. Salma Cendejas was officially approved to continue on as Secretary to the Board of Education. The Board will be heading to the Colorado Association of School Boards' 81st annual conference in Colorado Springs this week. The theme is Resilient, Ready, and Relentless for Colorado students. We will also be taking five high school students and Ms. Hays to participate in the student leadership strand of the conference.
Welcome to the Viking Team
We have been blessed to recruit some amazing staff members this year. We are happy to welcome back Nicole Neufeld as our secondary special education teacher. Most recently, Nicole has served as the Associate Director of the Early Childhood Council. Some of you may remember her from before as she was a Haskin elementary kindergarten teacher. She also worked at Sangre as an elementary special education teacher.
We also want to welcome Anel Tovar and Billie Culp to our team as well. They both came on board recently and will be supporting our students at the elementary level. Anel's sister Alyssa worked in the ARC last year and Billie is a familiar face as she has been a dependable substutite for us over the years. We are happy to have them as official members of the team.
Rewind
Last week, staff and students had a chance to spend time with family and hopefully rest and relax over Thanksgiving break. The week prior, our elementary staff enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner. Thanks to Christy Mikeljack and her Sunshine team that helped coordinate and get things together for the celebration.
While the elementary enjoyed some Thanksgiving treats, the middle/high spent time with their Professional Learning Communities. Make note of the vest crew! We had some staff rocking the extremely popular Viking VESTS!!!
Mr. Morgan and I attended the Approved Training Program for Educator Effectiveness at BOCES on Monday and Tuesday of this week. This was an informational two days put on by CDE to provide training on the evaluation process and the process for getting the district approved as an ATP, which will allow us to have local control of certifying evaluator designees.
Forward Focus
It will be a busy three and a half weeks as we finish up the first semester of school. Winter sports have started up. The Thunderbird Shootout will take place on Dec. 2nd at SDC. Our wrestling team is headed to Moab, Utah for the Red Rock Invitational this week.
We will be hosting a vaccine clinic for 5-11-year-olds on Friday from 2-6 pm in the main gym.
Check the website for other events happening in the district.
Have a great rest of the week!
