Focus on the Fabulous

We are pleased to welcome Mr. Eddie Wilson and Mrs. Amanda Garcia to the Center School Board. Both members were sworn in this past week and will attend their first Board of Education meeting during this week’s Organizational Meeting, where member roles will be elected. We look forward to beginning this new chapter with our Board and continuing the positive momentum established over the past eight years.

Our district has been instrumental in working for Congress’s reauthorization of Secure Rural Schools Funds.  This past week, we received notification from the offices of Representative Hurd and Senator Hickenlooper that a final support letter was sent to Speaker of the House Johnson and Minority Leader Jeffries to urge the reauthorization of these funds.

Thursday evening, I heard from Associate Superintendent Beans, who shared that, after all the hard work, heartfelt stories, and powerful pleas, SRS (S.356) is officially scheduled for a vote on the House floor on Tuesday!  This is incredible news for our district, rural schools, and public education.  Hold a good thought that we officially cross the finish line on Tuesday!

Our Center athletes and coaches also have much to celebrate! Several Vikings were recognized for their outstanding performances during the fall sports season. Four of our football players were selected for the All-League team: Ivan Guaderrama and Devan Garcia earned First Team honors, Jaiden Martinez was named to the Second Team, and Mario Mendoza received Honorable Mention.

We are incredibly proud to recognize Coach Misty Lambert, who was named the Southern Peaks League Coach of the Year! In volleyball, three of our athletes earned All-League honors as well-Emiliana Valdez was named to the Second Team, while Dulce Palma and Kendra Gomez Gonzalez received Honorable Mention. Congratulations to all our Center athletes on these well-deserved recognitions.

The winter sports season is also off to a fantastic start. Both varsity basketball teams placed 3rd at the annual Thunderbird Shootout. The boys defeated Dove Creek by double digits, and the girls dominated Dolores with an impressive final score of 59–22. The Blue displayed tremendous skill, composure, and teamwork throughout both games.

Our JV athletes also had an outstanding weekend. The JV boys claimed 1st place at the VAA Tournament for the second consecutive year-way to go! The JV Lady Vikings also performed exceptionally well, earning 2nd place.

Our wrestlers opened their season with a strong showing in Del Norte, competing with determination against three other Valley schools. In Bayfield, our boys took 9th place, and our brand new girls' team took 8th! It's a great start to the season for our wrestlers!

Finally, we want to highlight the accomplishments of Viking alum Ahyari Fimbres, who just graduated from basic training! We are incredibly proud of her hard work, dedication, and honorable commitment to serving our country.

Ahyari exemplifies the Viking Profile: hard-working, a problem solver, a contributor, an effective communicator, future-ready, and empowered. She is a shining example of what it means to be #VikingStrong.
