Focus on the Fabulous

Thanks to our amazing school board members who just finished up a decade of service to Center Schools.  On Tuesday night, we honored two of our outstanding, outgoing Board Members- Vice President Misty Palacios and Director and past Board President Lyn Bogle.

Misty Palacios was first elected in 2015, serving an initial two-year term, and was then re-elected in both 2017 and 2021. A proud Center graduate from the ARC, Misty is a shining example of the success and strength that comes from growing up in this community. As a professional RN who has served with SLV Health Physician Services for many years, Misty brought a level of professionalism, thoughtfulness, and quiet confidence to her board role that I deeply appreciated.

Her decision-making was always grounded in integrity and care. I reached out to her many times for direction and support, and she consistently offered guidance from a thoughtful, professional perspective. She ensured evaluations were completed on time, asked important questions, and made sure our work remained ethical and transparent. Thank you, Misty, for all you have done for the families, students, and community of Center.

Lyn has faithfully served on the board for ten years. He began his service in 2015, was re-elected in 2019, and again in 2021 for his final four-year term. Lyn has been part of the Center community since 1970. A businessman, an entrepreneur, and truly an all-around good guy, he brought vast experience, insight, and vision that have been invaluable to this district.

He was never afraid to speak up, even when the conversations were tough, because he always put students and the district first. During challenging times, he was a steadying force, offering direction and perspective to ensure we stayed focused on what mattered most.

Mr. Bogle’s leadership has left a lasting impact on this district.

To both Misty and Lyn- you will be greatly missed.  Together, we have navigated a pandemic; established staff childcare; raised salaries to become the highest-paying district in the valley; built a football field and track; added modular classrooms; purchased a generator; and worked tirelessly to ensure our students were safe, supported, and learning.  You have set a strong foundation for our incoming board members, and you will continue to serve as trusted mentors and invaluable resources.

Thank you for your trustworthiness, honesty, transparency, and unwavering commitment to the Center School District.

District Ownership Plan at Work

Priority #1 – Curriculum and Instruction

CCSD staff lead rigorous, engaging, collaborative learning experiences in every classroom that align with CCSD Instructional Expectations.

Priority #2 – Postsecondary and Workforce Readiness (PWR)

CCSD develops hardworking learners who are contributors, problem solvers, effective communicators, and future-ready with the skills needed to succeed.

On Thursday, our students participated in awesome, engaging ICAP activities across the district.

At Haskin Elementary, several local non-profit organizations:  Blue Peaks, La Puente, ECCSLV, Rainbows End, 4-H, the SLV Health Foundation, and the Center Fire Department joined students to share how their agencies support the community. Students took part in hands-on service activities, including making get-well cards for hospital patients, creating a giving tree, explaining ways they can help community members, picking up trash on the playground, and practicing gratitude. In the afternoon, grade levels completed reflection projects focused on how they would use money to help others, where they would donate, and why. Thanks to an enthusiastic penny war competition, students raised over $1,500. Next week, the winning class will choose where to donate the funds!

Skoglund Middle School also had a full and impactful ICAP day. The morning began with a special Veterans’ Day event honoring our hometown heroes. Student leaders emceed the program, interviewing veterans about their military service, the lessons they learned, and the contributions they made to our country. The Honor Choir opened the event with a beautiful performance of the National Anthem. Students then visited the Veterans’ Center to deliver thank-you cards and express their appreciation. The day concluded with a college visit to Adams State University, where students explored campus life and learned about future college and career opportunities.

Priority #3 – Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)

CCSD maintains high expectations for student learning and behavior, with structures in place to support the needs of all students.

A huge shout-out to Mrs. Donaldson and Secondary Counselor Stephany Rodriguez-Moreno for going above and beyond to keep our students safe. Sometimes our work extends beyond regular hours, and these two never hesitated to step up and do what was needed. Their commitment, quick action, and willingness to put students’ needs first exemplify the heart of our district. We are incredibly grateful for their dedication and care.

Priority #4 – Recruitment and Retention (R&R)

CCSD is committed to attracting, training, and retaining highly qualified teachers, knowing that effective educators are the single most important school-based factor in student success.

Preschool Director Janet Sanchez was recently featured in Chalkbeat discussing the challenges our district is facing due to funding cuts. Her insights highlight both the realities we are navigating and the expertise we have within our staff. This is yet another example of Center educators contributing to statewide conversations through their knowledge and leadership.  Check out the article @ https://www.chalkbeat.org/colorado/2025/10/17/colorado-impact-of-federal-snap-ed-funding-cuts/.

Additionally, a big thank-you to Julianne Quintana and Nikki Pepper for representing Center Schools at the UNC Teacher Job Fair on Thursday. Your efforts directly support our Recruitment & Retention goals, and you are helping showcase the incredible work happening in our district. Thank you for making Center Schools shine!
