Focus on the Fabulous
We hope everyone enjoyed the long Labor Day weekend! With September now underway, we are jumping off to a strong start. Week #2 of school was filled with focus and energy. Our teachers were on point, delivering high-quality instruction and keeping students engaged. There’s no time to waste as we work toward our shared core belief of having all students achieve high academic levels.

Friday brought extra excitement as we hosted our first home football game of the season. Our young Viking team played with heart and determination, showing true Viking pride on the field. While the final score wasn’t in our favor, the effort, teamwork, and flashes of great play gave us plenty to cheer about. With a new coach and a young roster, there are promising signs for the future. Our cheer team kept the energy high and the crowd engaged, making it a fun afternoon for everyone.

Meanwhile, our Lady Vikings volleyball team has been busy racking up valuable early-season experience. They opened last week on the road in Crested Butte with a strong 3–1 victory. On Saturday, they returned for a tournament, defeating Norwood in three sets before falling to Dolores and Nucla. The team is looking sharp and competitive, and we’re excited to see what the season has in store!
District Ownership Plan at Work
Our District Ownership Plan continues to guide and shape our efforts.
Priority #1 – Curriculum and Instruction: CCSD staff lead rigorous, engaging, collaborative learning experiences in every classroom that align with CCSD Instructional Expectations.

On Friday, August 22nd, teachers participated in the first PLC of the year. Staff dug into CMAS, PSAT, and SAT data, reviewing student performance trends and item analyses. This important work helps us identify areas of strength while also highlighting where we need to focus more deeply to ensure every student achieves a solid understanding of key concepts.
Priority #2 Post-Secondary and Workforce Readiness (PWR): CCSD seeks to develop hard working learners that are contributors, problem solvers, effective communicators, future ready and empowered with the skills necessary to meet and handle the challenges they will face in today’s world.

We are excited to expand our Career and Technical Education (CTE) program this year. Adam Sperandio has joined the team to continue the strong foundation built by Adele Alfson in Culinary Arts. A licensed CTE teacher, Mr. Sperandio brings valuable expertise to both the classroom and his new role as Athletic Director, where he has been busy preparing for fall sports seasons.
Priority #3- Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS): CCSD will maintain high expectations for student learning and behavior. Structures are in place to support the academic and behavioral needs of all students.

CCSD maintains high expectations for both student learning and behavior, with structures in place to support academic and behavioral needs at every level. Our dedicated counselors provide essential resources and care, our safety team ensures a secure learning environment, and our nursing staff delivers health services while also providing opportunities for medical field education.

Together, these supports create a strong foundation for student success. We have a multi-layered system of supports in place for our students to ensure that with our support ALL students can achieve at high levels and be successful in life!
Priority #4- Recruitment and Retention:
CCSD is committed to attracting the best and brightest to teach our students. Our goal is to recruit, train, and retain highly qualified teachers. Effective educators are the single most important school based factor determining student success.
