Focus on the Fabulous
The Center Viking Team works daily toward accomplishing the goals established in the District Ownership Plan. Each day, targeted efforts are made to ensure our students have the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in today’s world. Every staff member contributes to this shared work. We all own the work together, share in the responsibilities, and celebrate the successes of our students and the team as a whole.
District Ownership Plan at Work
The District Ownership Team (DOT) has established long-term and short-term goals for each of our improvement strategies.
Priority #1- Curriculum and Instruction: CCSD staff lead rigorous, engaging, collaborative learning experiences in every classroom that are aligned with CCSD Instructional Expectations
On Tuesday, Biology students in Ms. Archuleta’s class had the opportunity to learn about Forestry and ecosystems from the State Forest Service. Students braved the cold and snow while learning about tree identification, tree stand health, and forest management. Great job, Ms. Archuleta, for allowing our students to have some real-world learning experiences!
Priority #2—Post-Secondary and Workforce Readiness (PWR): CCSD seeks to develop hardworking learners who are contributors, problem solvers, effective communicators, future-ready, and empowered with the skills necessary to meet and handle the challenges they will face in today’s world.
Over the past couple of weeks, we hosted several events to support our Postsecondary Workforce Readiness (PWR) efforts. On November 13th, CHS students attended a career fair at Adams State University.
The following day, our district held a K-12 career fair as part of our ICAP Day. Students had the opportunity to connect with professionals from various fields and learn what careers in those professions entail. This type of exposure aligns with our District Ownership Plan (DOP) goals as we continue to implement pathways for students to explore careers and prepare for graduation and beyond.
A highlight of this year's ICAP Day was the inclusion of our elementary students, as Haskin students participated in the workshops, activities, and career fair. The day featured career workshops, team-building events, motivational speakers, live music, and a range of career exploration opportunities.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the day a success!
There were many moving parts, and it was inspiring to see our team working together and putting students first. A special thank you to the counselors—Stephanie, Jerica, Katrina, Adele, Jazmynn—and the CPYD team for coordinating such a fantastic event!
Priority #3- Multi-Tiered System of Supports
(MTSS): CCSD will maintain high expectations for student learning and behavior. Structures are in place to support academic and behavioral needs of all students.
Our MLT team meets monthly to ensure the right supports and resources are in place for every student's success. The team is doing an outstanding job of collecting and analyzing student belonging and performance data. This data will enable us to monitor the effectiveness of our interventions and supports.
One of our key goals for MTSS is to measure the positive impact of these efforts, aiming for a 5% quarterly reduction in discipline referrals and a 20% annual decrease.
Priority #4- Recruitment and Retention:
CCSD is committed to attracting the best and brightest to teach our students. Our goal is to recruit, train, and retain highly qualified teachers. Effective educators are the single most important school based factor determining student success.
Last Friday, following the morning's professional development, staff had the opportunity to relax and recharge. The R&R team hosted a staff appreciation afternoon, offering a variety of activities: soaking in the hot tubs at Hooper Pool, bowling, a Sip and Paint session, or simply enjoying time in their classrooms. It was a wonderful way to wrap up a snowy week.
As part of our R&R efforts, the district is focused on attracting and retaining high-quality staff and educators. One of our specific goals is to participate in at least three job fairs this year. Last week, Lindsay Stillwagon and Juliann Quintana attended a job fair in Greeley, representing our district with professionalism and enthusiasm. The R&R team has developed valuable resources to showcase our district, and Lindsay and Juliann did a fantastic job in moving us one step closer in reaching one of our recruitment goals.
We are committed to student and staff health and wellness. Our district nurses are doing their part to get health screenings done. Taylor Hasci was weighing and measuring elementary students over the last few weeks.
Thanks to Nikki Pepper, some of our staff are doing their best to get ahead of the holiday food and festivities by getting fit and staying fit! What a great way to take the lead and motivate staff towards health and wellness! #VikingStrong
Haskin staff started the holiday celebration early with their annual Thanksgiving dinner! It was a great time to gather together!
