Focus on the Fabulous

Haskin Elementary students had a fabulous time at the Pumpkin Patch on Thursday. What a great way to welcome fall! Students had the chance to pick the pumpkin of their choice and some of the pumpkins were as big as the students. Thanks to the Haskin staff for organizing this fun experience for our kids!

Haskin celebrated their Super Students at the end of the week! These kids have shown exemplary behavior and have worked hard in the classroom. Congratulations to our super Vikings!

The next two ladies don’t need an introduction because they are familiar faces on campus. However, they are new-ish to the Kindergarten team. Mariah Villagomez jumped in last year and finished out the year as one of our Kindergarten teachers. Mariah has done a lot in our district over the years. She’s been a para for six years and she’s helped to run the pee wee wrestling program. She has had to deal with some challenging dynamics this year, but her ability to build relationships and the structure and organization she has are helping her to be successful in her classroom.

Laura Duran has been in our district in a variety of roles. Laura started out as a preschool teacher and last year she jumped in to help at the fifth-grade level. She also has great organization and structure in her classroom. We appreciate Laura’s versatility and willingness to support the team wherever she is needed. Both of these ladies have stepped in and stepped up. This is what being a Viking is all about.

We don’t want to leave out Jaton Najera. Even though she’s been around for a while and is not a new teacher on staff, she completes our kindergarten team. Jaton has been a Viking for a long time and so has the rest of her family. Her hubby, Ascencion, works in the tech department and her two little Vikings are Logan and Emma. Jaton has been steady on the team and is always consistent about sending her lesson plans in on Sunday evening! Way to follow through with district expectations. She’s all about the Center Way!

Rewind

Fall sports are well underway and even though the scoreboard isn’t always showing what we want at the end of the game, our Viking athletes are hustling, growing, working together as a team, and making us proud. Our Lady Vikings played some great games against Gunnison on Saturday. There were some impressive volleys!

This weekend the cross country team traveled to Salida and to quote Coach Villa, “That was the hardest race of the year! All uphill!” Our Viking runners showed their endurance and grit during the race.

We are looking forward to some great competition during Homecoming week.

We have some exciting news to report. Last Tuesday night, the Town Board gave approval to the district to move forward with redoing the track at the Community Park. Mr. Jan Vigil presented at the Board meeting to encourage the Board to grant us permission to get started on the first phase of the park redesign, which is the track and possibly the football field. The Board was very supportive and gave the go-ahead! Center Vikings were representing! In the audience, we had our entire cross country team, Coaches Joe Martinez and Camille Villa, Wanetta Tipsword, and other Viking family members. We appreciate the partnership we have with the town and all the work that Brian Lujan, the town manager has done to further this endeavor. As a district, we are excited to get the ball rolling and see some much-needed improvements to our park!

Fast Forward
