Focus on the Fabulous

What a great way to kick off our spring concert season with the Haskin Elementary Spring Concert on Thursday night! All of our elementary students performed with their grades and then ended the night with the grand finale when all of the elementary students performed together. The students entertained with their voices, kazoos, percussion, and recorders! Kudos to Mr. Swanson who does an extraordinary job teaching the students the varied repertoire of songs and getting them to sound so amazing.

It’s pretty remarkable to hear our youngest students following along with challenging rhythms, keeping accurate time, and staying with the beat! Fourth grade students told musical stories in English and Spanish and then after they explained each section of the arrangement, they played it all together in the Hot Cross Buns Remix! The third graders impressed with their percussion performance. Well done Mr. Swanson and Haskin Elementary. Thanks to everyone who pitched in to make the night a success! Our facilities team did a great job with set up and tear down, the tech team was all hands on deck getting the sound system, microphones, and audio equipment ready, and all of the teachers who helped get the kids back and forth from their seats to the stage! It was a great night!

Congratulations to our Dr. Katrina Ruggles who successfully defended her dissertation on Friday! Way to go Katrina. We are proud of you! I’m not sure how you do all you do.. but we are very fortunate to have you in the Center Viking Ship!

A shout out to our awesome nursing team, Randi Asbell and Wendy Murillo! Our district has made the Colorado Immunity Honor roll for the last several years with our compliance rates. Only 18% of school districts made the honor roll and only 46% of students in Colorado attend a school that made the honor roll. The honor roll means that our district met the 95% or higher rate for vaccine compliance. We have to report vaccine compliance to state every year and it takes a lot of work to make sure our students are up to date on vaccines or have a vaccine exemption on file. This is the 6th year in a row that we have made the honor roll!! This means the students in Center Schools are safer because of the rate of students that are fully vaccinated against vaccine preventable disease!

Good job Randi and Wendy for your diligence and hard work in making this happen!! We are lucky to have you!
