Center of Focus

Focus on the Fabulous

Just because we were on Spring Break didn’t mean that Center Vikings weren’t busy being fabulous. Our pee wee and middle school wrestlers kept very busy competing at regionals and then at the state competition. Our elementary pee wees qualified eight to compete at state: Katlyn Almeida, Demario Galvan, Traysin Lujan, Armondo Ruybal, Damon Chavez, Liam Trujillo, and Izzy Villagomez.

Congratulations to Liam Trujillo for earning the state champion title!

The middle school also qualified eight grapplers to wrestle at state: Jonas Valadez - 7th, Caden Ruggles- 1st, Jaiden Atencio- 4th, Osmany Roman- 4th. Derriq Thompson- 4th, Dominick Ramierz- 5th, Giselle Meraz- 3rd, and Michael Archuleta- 3rd. Congratulations to Caden for taking 2nd place at the state level.

We have a pretty impressive group of wrestlers coming up! The future of Viking wrestling is in good shape!

It wasn’t just our athletes that were being recognized. Some of our high school students were in the REC SLV Emailer for their participation in the Career Fair that they attended at ASU earlier this month. It’s great to see our students in the limelight!

Rewind

The week before Spring Break was a busy one. Students in Mrs. Quintana’s class were working hard to catch leprechauns for St. Patrick’s Day. The kids participated in a fun, educational activity that had them designing traps as part of a writing assignment! What a fun way to keep kids engaged!

We had our monthly regular Board meeting and several students from Mrs. Butler’s class did a fantastic job presenting their research and writing assignments to the Board. Students selected a topic of interest to them and then wrote letters to the state legislature to present their concerns and ask for support.

Elliot Cardoza, Landry Neufeld, and Janayah Martinez did a fantastic job presenting their letters. This lesson incorporated a number of literacy skills while challenging students to address current issues. Mrs. Butler was recognized at the Board meeting by Ms. Donaldson for doing such a great job with our middle school students.

Mrs. Rue was another middle school teacher that was recognized by Ms. Donaldson. She joined our team this year and has worked hard to deliver solid math instruction to our students. We are fortunate to have such an impressive team at the middle school.

Other staff that was recognized included Camille Ruggles, our middle/high special educator, and Stephanie Archuleta, our high school science teacher. Mrs. Neufeld presented both ladies with certificates of appreciation for their hard work and dedication to our students.

Ms. Bouet also recognized some of our amazing elementary teachers, Aleceya Mortensen and Brooke Slane, our 3rd-grade team. These two ladies have done a fantastic job solidifying the 3rd grade with their enthusiasm and new ideas.

Our District Accountability Team meets monthly before the Board meeting. Miguel Rios is the DAC Chair and he has done a great job of leading those meetings. One of our boulders at the secondary level has been to get more parent and community engagement. This has definitely happened on the DAC. We have several parents that are actively participating on this committee and bringing some great ideas and energy to the team. We are glad to have Miguel, Gabriela Bucio, and Gabby Rodriguez as part of our DAC. We are always looking for additional parents and community members who would like to get involved. There are a number of opportunities in the district!
