Center of Focus

Focus on our Fabulous Staff

Ashley Lane has been in our district for the entirety of her career- 13 years! Haskin Elementary has been fortunate to have her level of expertise in the classroom all these years and our students have benefitted! Before she got started in education, she waited tables to help with college expenses. During her time at Haskin, she has taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-grade. She is a certified Kagan Cooperative Learning Engagement trainer and a K-12 coach. She has also worked as a reading interventionist and an English Language elementary co-teacher. The best part of her job is the people that she meets. Ashley shares, “The students bring so much joy to my life. I love seeing the lightbulb go off and seeing my students take risks because they know it’s ok to make mistakes. I love watching them grow throughout the years. I have also met some amazing colleagues, mentors, coaches, leaders, and friends. This job has been intrinsically rewarding. Not one day is the same which provides many different opportunities to make a difference.” Ashley definitely makes a difference for our district. Our fourth-grade students performed very well in last year's state assessments and that is evidence of Ashley's hard work. When she is not working, Ashley enjoys spending time with her family. She has 3 stepsons and 3 children of her own, 2 girls, and a boy. Their ages range from 11-19 years old. Ashley’s favorite color is green and she enjoys COFFEE every day! We are lucky to have her on our team.

Cameron King is a new face in our district. He is our new high school social studies teacher. He is just starting out in his education career. His previous experience consists of one year of teaching at Bethune School and as a long-term substitute in several other schools. Cameron believes his strongest attributes as an educator are his ability to connect with students and to keep them engaged in class through interactive activities. Mr. King is taking the place of Mr. Steward, who left us last year. We are excited to see how Mr. King will make history come to life for our students! Welcome aboard!

Mr. Charles Kuhns comes to our district with a wealth of knowledge and experience. He will be providing targeted, intensive support to our students as the behavior support teacher for our secondary students. Mr. Kuhns’ worked at the Center for Restorative Programs for the last 8 years. He has 25 years of experience working with children and families and this has prepared him to provide intervention, instruction, and supports to some of our students who are at risk. He is passionate about working with students and his positive, supportive approach will help him to connect well with our students. He attended Center High School back in the day and has a deep connection to our district. He bleeds blue, as they say. He is a great listener, team-oriented, and we are thrilled to have him on our team.

Rewind

The District Leadership Team met on Wednesday, August 24th. The role of this team is to drive district efforts related to our District Action Plan.

Friday, staff participated in the first PLC/work day of the year. In the morning, all staff was trained on Branching Minds. This program will help us to utilize data more efficiently so that we can put the necessary supports in place for our students. Staff had the afternoon to work in their classrooms.
