Focus on the Fabulous

May 23, 2022

Even though we are rolling into our last week of school, it’s pretty remarkable to see the amazing things going on across the district. Students and staff are finishing strong, providing quality learning experiences for our students that are fun and purposeful.

Mr. Hagan, our middle school English teacher, had his students presenting at the Center Entrepreneur Conference in the auditorium. Students did a fantastic job marketing and presenting their products to the audience of potential investors. This activity required students to be innovative and creative as they developed comprehensive websites to market their products. Students presented their websites to the conference-goers using effective communication skills and marketing strategies in a fun engaging way. This lesson exemplifies a real-world experience that prepares our students with the skills necessary to be successful in today’s society.

Fifth graders in Mr. Mosher’s class were working hard on their memory books. This was a fun activity for the kids as they were eager to share their favorite books from the year. Students were doing a great job decorating their books and writing about the connections they made with the characters and their favorite parts of the stories. Students had just completed a research project on their favorite athletes. Those posters are displayed in the elementary hallway.

You never know what’s going on in our science classrooms. Mr. Kriss had students conducting the egg drop test at the park and Ms. Dolan had students flying around the gym on student-built hoverboards. There were some friendly competitions between classmates… I’ll just let the pictures speak for themselves.

Ms. Dolan has also been working with Mrs. Magness's class doing some fun activities and making science come to life for our younger students. It's great to see teachers collaborating throughout the district!

The door decoration contest between middle/high advisory groups was impressive. Thanks to Ashlee Welsh for coordinating this event and all the staff and students that gave such great effort! Center school district is a place where everybody belongs!

Rewind

Students and staff lined the hallways to cheer on our senior graduates! This has become an annual tradition and is a great way to make sure that with our support ALL Center students can be successful, achieve at high levels, and graduate!!

We had a number of Center alum graduate from college over the last couple of weeks. A number of our past students crossed the stage at the Adams State graduation last weekend: Dolores Estrada Hernandez- AA, Elizabeth Molina- AS, Alexis Sanchez- BFA- Graphic Design, Mariela Hernandez Munoz- BSBA, Alaliyan Garcia- BA HAPS, Brandon Chavez- BS-Kinesiology, Genesis Escalon- BA Sociology, and Skylar Philbern- BA- Sociology. Congratulations Center Vikings. You make us proud!

I hope you all saw this past week’s Center Dispatch as Kindra Rounds and the amazing Capstone work the students do was one of the feature articles.

Congratulations to Panta Villagomez who formally became a US citizen earlier this month. He followed through with the process to accomplish this goal and he and his family attended the Oath of Allegiance ceremony in Denver. To repeat Maria's words, "He can continue to live the American Dream!" Congratulations Panta. We are happy for you and glad you are a part of our Center family!

We had a great night at the San Luis Valley Educator of the Year banquet. Congratulations once again to Alex Magness. She represented the district well!

Fast Forward

This will be a busy week as we wrap up the year. Tuesday evening at 6:00 pm, Kindergarten graduation will be held in the auditorium. Wednesday morning, Skoglund will have its student awards assembly. The 8th-grade continuation ceremony will be held Wednesday night at 6:00 pm. There will also be a special BOE meeting on Wednesday at 6:00 pm to approve the CHS graduating class and to approve the preliminary budget for next year. Looking forward to Haskin Field Day on Thursday and the students' last day of school! Mr. Garcia is organizing the staff vs. 5th game that day and it’s appropriately a game of elimination! Should be interesting. The sports banquet will be that evening. Friday will be a workday for the staff. We will have breakfast Friday morning to honor our retirees and bid our adieus to those heading off in new directions. CHS graduation will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 28th in the main gym. ARC graduation will be the following Saturday, June 4th.
