Focus on our Fabulous Staff

Take a minute to get to know one of our amazing elementary teachers! JoAnn Lopez is our elementary CLD teacher. She supports our students who are English Learners by providing them with small group and 1:1 instruction. JoAnn works closely with all the elementary teachers, making sure our students have the necessary supports in the classroom so that they can be successful. JoAnn also serves on the district Recruitment and Retention team. Her creative talents come in handy and she makes the team look good! We are fortunate to have JoAnn as part of our Viking Team!

Viking Strong!

Our wrestling team is having a fantastic season. We have five boys competing this year, four freshmen and a senior: Jordon Duran at 106 lbs., Lorenzo Trujillo weighing in at 160 lbs., Jesus Valadez, 170 lbs., Mason Merritt Armenta, 182 lbs., and Chase Padilla, HWT.

Jordan jumped up to 8th in the state after this weekend’s competition and he is 14-2. Lorenzo is going to drop down in weight for regionals and is positioned to place in the top 3. Jesus is one of the captains and he has beaten the #5 kid in the state and has wrestled up on a number of occasions. He has worked hard to have a winning record in three different weight classes. Mason has a 6-6 record and has done well even though this is only his 2nd year of wrestling. Coach Mondragon is impressed with his efforts and says he’s improving every week. Chase is the second captain and two weekends ago he went 4-0 beating some tough kids from four different districts.

Coach Mondragon says this is a special group of boys. They are hard workers and hold each other accountable. They have been able to follow the social distancing protocols, making sure that they are doing the right things with masks, hand washing, and social distancing. Our Viking wrestlers have teamed up with the Sierra Grande wrestling team as part of the season’s protocols regarding numbers. They have welcomed this team with open arms. The two teams have developed a special bond during the challenges that this pandemic has created and are now rooting each other on.

Forward Focus

Elementary staff and students have done a great job following through with the social distancing protocols and as a result, the transition back to full time has been a success! Royalty coronation will happen after the basketball game vs. Del Norte on Tuesday night @ 5:00 pm. Thursday is the staff vs. students basketball game @ 7:30 pm in the big gym. Friday our wrestlers will be at regionals and basketball vs. Sanford.
