Focus on the Fabulous
Michael Archuleta represented our district exceptionally well at the State Wrestling Competition, battling valiantly and earning an impressive 3rd-place finish. Competing as the lone athlete representing our school brings its own level of pressure, yet Michael carried himself with class, grit, and determination throughout the tournament. He truly embodies our Viking Profile-hardworking, contributing, and forward-thinking. Congratulations, Michael. We are all proud of your outstanding accomplishment!
Our Viking family is also experiencing some transitions, as a few of our valued staff members pursue new opportunities beyond our district. This week, we said farewell to Stephany Moreno-Rodriguez as she begins an exciting new position at Adams State University.
Abigail Rendon has also accepted a new role with the state, continuing work similar to what she led in our district. Her expertise and dedication, particularly in strengthening our suicide prevention efforts, have been recognized at the state level. We are grateful that she will continue to support our district in this important area.
While it is difficult to say goodbye to outstanding team members, it speaks volumes about the quality, talent, and professionalism of our staff that others seek them out. We are proud to have contributed to their growth and are confident they will continue to make a positive impact. We wish both Stephany and Abigail the very best in their new roles.
District Ownership Plan at Work
The District Ownership held it’s monthly meeting on Wednesday and reviewed progress towards our annual goals.Â
Priority #1 – Curriculum and Instruction
CCSD staff lead rigorous, engaging, collaborative learning experiences in every classroom that align with CCSD Instructional Expectations. Â
Our teachers continue to follow through on Center’s instructional expectations, and this past week we achieved 100% of staff with learning objectives and DFAs posted. This is an outstanding accomplishment and reflects our collective commitment to clarity, consistency, and student learning. Excellent work, team!
Our administrators are also consistently present in classrooms, observing instruction and supporting teachers to ensure we are providing high-quality, rigorous learning experiences for all students. In the past 30 days, there have been 35 classroom observations and 32 lesson plans reviewed. Everyone is following through with Core Belief #3- Quality instruction, planning, and assessment lead to high achievement for all students. We appreciate everyone’s dedication to excellence in all that you do, every day.
In addition, our Curriculum and Instruction team is actively developing plans for next year’s professional development. The team is identifying essential Tier 1 best practices to ensure that every educator who joins our district receives the foundational training and support needed to be successful. This proactive approach will help strengthen instruction across the district and ensure continued growth and success for both staff and students.
Priority #2 – Postsecondary and Workforce Readiness (PWR)
CCSD develops hardworking learners who are contributors, problem solvers, effective communicators, and future-ready with the skills needed to succeed.
The PWR team has had a productive year so far, successfully completing several key benchmark goals. These accomplishments include developing an aligned ICAP scope and sequence, establishing a Junior PWR scope and sequence, maintaining strong enrollment across our five pathway options, implementing clear graduation guidelines, and aligning culminating projects to our Viking Profile. This work ensures that our students are well prepared for postsecondary opportunities and future success.
The team met recently to take the next step in this process by developing comprehensive plans for each school. These plans will include identified artifacts of excellence that demonstrate student growth and achievement. In addition, the team is working to ensure these artifacts are housed in a centralized location, creating a cohesive system that allows us to monitor progress, celebrate success, and ensure alignment across the district. This work strengthens our commitment to preparing every student for college, career, and life.
Â
Priority #3 – Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
CCSD maintains high expectations for student learning and behavior, with structures in place to support the needs of all students.
The MLT held its monthly meeting on Wednesday and shared updates on the important work taking place across each building. The team reviewed Attendance, Behavior, and Course Completion (ABC) data to measure the effectiveness of the interventions and supports currently in place.
Attendance rates across all three buildings remain strong, reflecting the collective efforts of staff and families. Haskin Elementary reported a 92.7% attendance rate, Skoglund Middle School is at 93.74%, and Center High School is at 93.28%. In addition, the team has identified students who are considered chronically absent and is continuing to implement targeted supports to improve their attendance.
At the high school level, there has been a focused effort around the ZAP (Zeros Aren’t Permitted), which emphasizes accountability and ensures students complete their assignments rather than accepting zeros. The extra time, attention, and commitment from the high school staff are making a positive impact. Overall, teachers report that these additional supports are helping students stay on track and are contributing to improved engagement and course completion.
Priority #4 – Recruitment and Retention (R&R)
CCSD is committed to attracting, training, and retaining highly qualified teachers, knowing that effective educators are the single most important school-based factor in student success.
After multiple attempts, we were finally able to hold Hawaiian Night for the Hoehne basketball game. Thanks to the R&R team for handing out leis and treating fans to some delicious frozen horchata in coconuts!Â
