Focus on the Fabulous
Fall is in the air, and Haskin students had a blast visiting the pumpkin patch this past week! Students and teachers enjoyed picking out their very own pumpkins in preparation for Halloween fun. 🎃
We are excited to welcome the SSN program to Center Schools this year! In partnership with the San Luis Valley BOCES, our district has opened its own SSN classroom, meaning that our elementary students no longer need to travel to Monte for these specialized services. Now, our Viking students are right here on campus, receiving the support and resources they need. Ms. Hernandez, who taught 5th grade last year, is stepping into the role of SSN teacher, and we are thrilled to welcome her and the team to this important new program. Having all of our students on site strengthens our Viking family!

Our Cross Country team has been having an incredible season! At the Gerald Archuleta Meet, we had four CHS boys place in the top 20: Dahir Ornelas (2nd), Kevin Tomas-Lopez (6th), Isaac Garcia (10th), and Romero Villagomez-Juarez (13th). For the CHS girls, Anahlicia Villagomez finished 5th, and Lavine Casas-Hernandez took 10th. Our middle school team also shone, with Rogelio Casimiro-Palma winning the Boys 3000M in a time of 12:29, Zev Villagomez finishing 18th, and Daniel Valenzuela placing in the top 20. In the MS girls' race, Arely Juarez and Zenia Gomez ran strong, finishing 4th and 5th. Way to go, Viking runners! We are proud of your hard work and success.

Chris Segura and Cameron King installed our 3-D plaque last week to honor our legendary track coaches: Dennis Schoenfelder, Dave Furukawa, and Dale Beiriger. Go take a look at the track!

We are excited to celebrate one of our Viking graduates, Angel Baca! Angel is currently serving in the U.S. Army and has just completed basic training this week. Congratulations, Angel! We are so proud of your hard work, dedication, and commitment—you represent both our district and our country with honor.
District Ownership Plan at Work
Priority #2 – Postsecondary and Workforce Readiness (PWR)
CCSD develops hardworking learners who are contributors, problem solvers, effective communicators, and future-ready with the skills needed to succeed.
We held our first Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) Day on Thursday, and it was a great success! Each building planned engaging activities to help students explore career pathways and develop their future goals.

Students completed Career Cluster Inventories to identify potential career fields based on their interests and skill sets. At Skoglund, students explored careers, read poetry, made bracelets, played trivia, and gave back to the community by picking up trash. High school students participated in a virtual Career Pathway Gallery Walk and continued developing their ICAP plans, while juniors had the opportunity to visit Western State in Gunnison.
Thank you to our staff and students for making this first ICAP Day of the year a success as we continue preparing students with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in life!
Priority #3 – Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
CCSD maintains high expectations for student learning and behavior, with structures in place to support the needs of all students.
