Focus on the Fabulous

Homecoming 2025 was a Smashing Success!

Student Council sponsor, Hanna Hays, did a fantastic job coordinating a week full of fun and school spirit for this year’s Homecoming!

From Monday’s Pep Assembly and Powder Puff games to daily dress-up themes, exciting competitions, royalty, the parade, and the HOCO dance, the week was action-packed with Viking pride.

Students went all out with spirit week attire-rocking pajamas, Viking blue, crazy socks, sorority girls and frat boys, soccer moms and BBQ dads, and favorite jerseys. It was a fun-filled week as Vikings came together to celebrate our traditions and show off their Viking Spirit.

Royalty was crowned at halftime during the football game. Congratulations to our HOCO court!

Even though HOCO was in full swing, learning continued at Center Schools. High school students in Ms. Archuleta's and Mrs. Roberts’ classes participated in the Envirothon Field Day this past week.  Students conducted soil tests to understand soil composition and health, compared different species of ducks and migration routes, and discussed water sample tests.  Thanks to Ms. Archuleta and Mrs. Roberts for giving our students the opportunity to participate in this event.

District Ownership Plan at Work

On Friday’s optional PD day, the morning session focused on classroom management, while the afternoon was dedicated to Google Classroom and Restorative Practices. Thank you to our team of presenters and to all staff who dedicated time to enhancing their professional toolbox.

Priority #2 – Postsecondary and Workforce Readiness (PWR)

CCSD develops hardworking learners who are contributors, problem solvers, effective communicators, and future-ready with the skills needed to succeed.

This week, our Certified Nursing Assistant students assisted with health screenings in the SSN classroom. Not only are they gaining real-world experience and credentials through this CTE course, but they also supported our nursing team in ensuring all students received their screenings. Afterward, the groups spent time together on the playground-great job, team!

Priority #3 – Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)

CCSD maintains high expectations for student learning and behavior, with structures in place to support the needs of all students.

HS Counselor Stephany Rodriguez-Morena represented CCSD at the state level this past week, speaking on the panel discussion "Supporting Student Mental Health: Strategies for Diverse, Mobile Populations" at the CDE Landscape of Wellbeing Conference. Way to go, Stephany!

Priority #4 – Recruitment and Retention (R&R)

CCSD is committed to attracting, training, and retaining highly qualified teachers, knowing that effective educators are the single most important school-based factor in student success.

Our R&R team had a busy week supporting HOCO festivities! On Tuesday night, they hosted a Viking swag giveaway before the Lady Vikings volleyball game, where fans spun the Wheel of Destiny for prizes ranging from water bottles to t-shirts. On Friday, the R&R team hosted the annual tailgate event before the football game, helping to build community connections among staff and families. Shout-out to Mr. Noriega for designing the cool t-shirts handed out at the game!
