Focus on the Fabulous

Students and staff were all smiles as we wrapped up this year’s summer school.

A big shout-out to Brenda Montoya, who served as Director.  Thanks to her leadership and the support of her sidekick, Debra Lujan, everything ran smoothly. These ladies kept the show on the road!  Students benefited from targeted, focused instruction on critical content to ensure they’re ready to start the new school year strong in August.

There’s been plenty of other great work happening around campus, too.  Speaking of the campus, our grounds have never looked better.  Thanks to the hard work of Chris, Cameron, and Rico, things look fabulous!

The grass is green and in beautiful shape!

The facilities team is working on both the inside and outside of the building as part of the annual summer projects.

Many efforts are underway to ensure the building is in tip-top shape for the fall.

The tech crew is working hard to clean and reboot devices to start the school year. Julio is working with outside contractors to update and standardize intercom systems and door security throughout the district.

Our new additions project is moving along smoothly.  The exterior framing for all buildings is complete, and the construction team is working on roof insulation.

The project is tentatively on track for completion in November or December, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a move into the new facility over the Christmas break. I’ll keep you updated as we get closer.

On the financial side, I know there have been concerns about funding for public education and uncertainty regarding federal dollars. Betty and I have been working diligently on next year’s budget, which was approved at the Special Board Meeting last Monday. Thanks to sound financial decisions over the past seven years, we’re on solid footing. That said, we will need to tighten our belts in some areas to maintain that strong foundation. The good news is that we were able to honor the step increase for all staff members, providing the traditional beginning-of-year raise based on experience in the district. Throughout the year, we’ll continue to evaluate programming, positions, and resources to ensure we’re operating as efficiently as possible.

District Ownership Plan at Work

Priority #1 – Curriculum and Instruction

Goal: CCSD staff lead rigorous, engaging, collaborative learning experiences in every classroom that align with CCSD Instructional Expectations.

We have some exciting news: our WIDA ACCESS results are in, and our district has shown solid growth! Overall, 40% of our English Learners demonstrated growth at or above the median growth percentile, and 60% achieved adequate growth. At Haskin Elementary, the median growth percentile (MGP) was 27%, with 40% of students making adequate growth. Skoglund students had an MGP of 48.5%, just below the state average, with 65.5% showing adequate growth. And at CHS, students shined, earning an MGP of 64%, well above the state expectation, with 86% making adequate growth. Congratulations to our ELD team for their dedication and hard work throughout the school year!
