Focus on the Fabulous- Vikings in Action

We welcomed Mike Ruybal back to our Viking family as a member of our Safety and Security Team. Mike joins us as armed district security, providing an essential layer of protection for our students and staff. After experiencing ongoing challenges in maintaining a School Resource Officer, the decision was made to bring security services in-house by hiring our own dedicated support. Mike brings valuable experience working in school settings and is already making a positive impact.
Student safety and district security are top priorities. The presence of armed security enhances safety by deterring potential threats and allowing for a rapid response in emergencies. Mike offers peace of mind for students, staff, and families, knowing that trained personnel are on-site and prepared. He is also building strong relationships with students and working closely with our Safety Director, Chuck Kuhns, to coordinate district-wide safety and security efforts.

Meanwhile, Haskin and Skoglund students have completed their first round of CMAS testing. Thanks to the dedication of students and staff, testing went smoothly and was a positive experience across both schools. A big shout out to Trish Rue and the middle school team, who planned fun theme days and provided special treats to help motivate students to give their best effort.

We also had a packed house at Tuesday night’s regular board meeting. It was inspiring to see parents and students come together to express a strong interest in launching a high school girls' wrestling team next year. Giselle Meraz, our state champion, has paved the way and inspired many of our female athletes to dream big. Her success, along with that of Janayah Martinez, who earned third place at the middle school state competition, is creating momentum.

With a solid foundation already built at the middle school level and growing community support, there's excellent energy behind making a girls' wrestling team a reality.
District Ownership Plan at Work
Priority #1- Curriculum and Instruction: CCSD staff lead rigorous, engaging, collaborative learning experiences in every classroom aligned with CCSD Instructional Expectations.
Students demonstrate what they’ve learned throughout the year on the annual state assessments. Testing will continue this week for Haskin and Center High School.
Priority #2: Post-Secondary and Workforce Readiness (PWR): CCSD seeks to develop hardworking learners who are contributors, problem solvers, effective communicators, future-ready, and empowered with the skills necessary to meet and handle the challenges they will face in today’s world.
Priority #3- Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS): CCSD will maintain high expectations for student learning and behavior. Structures are in place to support academic and behavioral needs of all students.

District Nurse Wendy Murillo presented at the Board meeting on Tuesday night on all the support and resources our nursing team provides for our students throughout the year as part of our multi-tiered support system.
#4- Recruitment and Retention:
CCSD is committed to attracting the best and brightest to teach our students. Our goal is to recruit, train, and retain highly qualified teachers. Effective educators are the single most important school based factor determining student success.

We are well on our way filling our open positions as the Board approved several hires on Tuesday night. We are still advertising for elementary teachers, an elementary paraprofessional, a secondary social studies teacher, and a Director to the Superintendent.
