 Focus on the Fabulous

Happy National School Counselor’s Week to our amazing counselors.  This week we recognize the contributions our counselors make in our district and the impact they have on our students.  We are fortunate to have a full team of skilled counselors to ensure we are living up to Core Belief #2- With our support, ALL Students can be successful and achieve at high levels.  At Haskin, we have Jerica Gonzalez working closely with students and staff to ensure the needs of our youngest students are addressed and that we are providing the support required.  At the secondary, we are fortunate to have Katrina Ruggles, Stephany Rodriguez, and Adele Alfson supporting our middle and high school students.  Celina Espinoza provides support for our students who are attending the ARC and CVA.  Each of our counselors contributes in their unique ways to helping our students thrive.   We are glad to have each of you as part of our team.  Thank you for the work you do!  It makes a difference in our students’ lives.

It was a big wrestling weekend as we hosted the annual Valley Classic.  Teams across the state descended on Center Schools for another weekend of tough competition.

The CHS boys dominated their matches and came first as a team.

Many individual victories helped the team earn their championship status:

Nic Palma- 120 lbs.- 2nd place

Matthew Archuleta- 126 lbs.- 6th place

Martin Palma- 165 lbs.-2nd place

Derriq Thompson- 165 lbs.-6th place

Aaron Valadez- 150 lbs.- 1st place

Caden Ruggles- 157 lbs.-  2nd place

Andree Meraz- 144 lbs.-  1st place

Devan Garcia- 150 lbs.- 8th place

Osmany Roman- 175 lbs.

Noah Swanson- 190 lbs. -5th  place

Our coaches did a fantastic job staying positive and keeping the wrestlers motivated.  We are proud of their performance and look forward to seeing how they compete this coming week at regionals!

It was another successful tournament.  This is always a big production and takes a lot of hard work from everybody to make it a success.

Great job to Linda Donaldson for coordinating everything.  Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Kuhns for running the system, John Noriega for announcing, and all the table help and officials.  Mrs. Banning and all of her help, once again, hosted the best hospitality room around.  Thanks to our facilities team for getting things set up and ensuring the event ran smoothly.  Thanks to the tech team for getting all the technology system and putting the final touches on the event.  Great work everybody!

These types of events highlight the amazing staff we have in place at every level.  I am thankful to work with such a solid team.  A school district has a lot of moving parts, and ensuring that everything comes together smoothly means that everybody is doing their job at every level.  We have some amazing staff running our various departments.

I want to take a minute to showcase our fantastic department leaders and the great work they do running their departments:

Transportation: Tony Garcia Preschool: Janet Sanchez

Health: Wendy Murillo Facilities: Chris Segura

Food Services: Diana Valenzuela Technology: Julio Paez

Assistant Director: Andy Lavier Student Behavior and Safety: Charles Kuhns

District Ownership Plan at Work

This week we are focusing on Priority #4- Recruitment and Retention:

CCSD is committed to attracting the best and brightest to teach our students.  Our goal is to recruit, train, and retain highly qualified teachers.  Effective educators are the single most important school-based factor in determining student success.

Core Belief #4- Everyone must be committed to excellence in ALL they do, every day.

We’ve had some great professional development throughout the year.  Mr. Swanson attended the Colorado Music Educators Conference in Springs this past week.  He was excited to get a signed book from clinicians Sandy Lantz and Gretchen Wahlberg.  We encourage our staff to further their professional development through training, conferences, and education.
