Focus on the Fabulous
The holiday spirit filled the hallways last week as music and cheer brought our school community together. The festivities kicked off on Monday evening with a wonderful Winter Concert, led by Mr. Noriega and his talented band students. The 5th-grade band began the celebration with classic tunes, including Hot Cross Buns and Jingle Bells. The 6th graders dazzled the audience with spirited performances of Jolly Old St. Nick, The Nutcracker, and Up on the Housetop.
The Middle School band entertained with Rudolph and a playful parody of Silent Night titled All is NOT Calm. The evening concluded with the High School band, showcasing jazzy arrangements of traditional songs, including a standout rendition of Silent Night, beautifully arranged by Mr. Noriega. The concert was a tremendous success, with many positive comments about the growth and development of our band department—a fantastic way to start the week!
On Wednesday, the annual Haskin Elementary Concert, directed by Mr. Swanson, delighted families with energetic and creative performances. Kindergarteners started the night with Snow Fort, ending the song by playfully bombarding Mr. Swanson with pretend snowballs. First graders, alongside Mrs. Stilly, entertained with Yes, We Have No Piñatas!
Second graders performed Up on the Housetop, adding flair with triangles, jingle bells, and percussion sticks. Third graders showcased their musical talents with Bells on Christmas Morning, featuring instruments like xylophones, tambourines, and drums. Fourth graders impressed with recorder performances, demonstrating skills in rhythm, intonation, and timing.
The grand finale brought all students together for a heartwarming rendition of Silent Night. One of the night’s surprises included the Christmas Crooners, who asked Santa for a Hippopotamus for Christmas—and they got their wish! The “hippo” even showed off some great dance moves! For those who missed this magical evening (or just need a smile), the concert is available on our district Facebook page.
Thank you to everyone who worked hard to make both concerts such a success! Special recognition goes to our tech team and the new sound systems in both gyms for enhancing the experience.
Celebrating Academic Achievements
Congratulations to Josselyn Duran, who graduated this weekend from ASU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies! We are so proud of Josselyn and this accomplishment!

Focus on Our Fabulous Athletes
Both middle school boys’ basketball teams competed in the end-of-season tournament in Sanford. Mr. Noriega’s team played for the Consolation Championship, narrowly losing to Sangre De Cristo in overtime.
Coach Donaldson’s team made it to the Small Team Championship, finishing in an impressive 2nd place.
The C-Town Showdown took place this past weekend. Center hosted this exciting event, where our Lady Vikings left it all on the court and took home the Championship title! The boys' team also had a strong showing, finishing 2nd overall.
Our CHS wrestlers competed at the Limon Invitational, placing 7th overall as a team. Individual highlights included:
Andre Meraz - 1st place
Aaron Valadez - 2nd place
Nick Palma - 3rd place
Martin Palma - 4th place
Congratulations to all our athletes for their hard work and achievements—Go Vikings!
It was a week filled with celebration, achievement, and school spirit. Thank you to everyone who contributed to these successes, and here's to a fantastic finish to the semester!
District Ownership Plan at Work
The District Ownership Team (DOT) has established long and short term goals for each of our improvement strategies. This week we are focusing in on Priority #2.
Priority #2 Post-Secondary and Workforce Readiness (PWR): CCSD seeks to develop hard working learners that are contributors, problem solvers, effective communicators, future ready and empowered with the skills necessary to meet and handle the challenges they will face in today’s world.
Our junior students are hard at work on their capstone projects, a graduation requirement designed to build post-secondary and workforce readiness (PWR) skills. These comprehensive, real-world projects challenge students to plan and execute service initiatives that positively impact the community.
The capstone process involves multiple phases, including project proposals, timelines, budgets, presentations, revisions, and, ultimately, the implementation of their plans. Through this experience, students develop essential PWR skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, innovation, self-direction, collaboration, and communication.
Last week, Cristian Badachi presented his capstone project to the CCSD School Board. His proposal focuses on installing a spotlight in the main gym to showcase our athletes as they are introduced for their respective sports.
We look forward to seeing the outcomes of these projects and the lasting impact they will have on our district and community. Junior Capstone Projects reinforce the district’s focus on preparing our students for the future!
Rewind
Several of our Department Heads reported out to the CCSD School BOE on the work they are doing in their respective departments. Chris Segura, Facilities Director, shared about the team he has assembled and the projects that they have been working on. He also showed the board his HVAC Technician certificate he earned by completing the program recently. Dianna Valenzuela, Food Services Director, provided information on the programming she offers for all our students throughout the day. She highlighted the snack and after-school programs she does for students attending additional programs provided by the district. Chuck Kuhns, Director of Safety and Student Behavior, provided an overview of his work, including improving communication with our new radios and purchasing handheld scanners. The BOE approved two resolutions at the meeting. One designates Center School District as a Safe Zone for ALL students, and the other approves hiring an armed security guard as an additional layer of safety.
