Heroes Among Us: Viking Students Save a Life

We are incredibly proud to share a remarkable story of bravery and quick thinking in our Viking community. Two of our students, Armando Ruybal and Aylya Garcia, sprang into action when they noticed their classmate, Arian Benitez, choking in the lunchroom. Armando and Aylya immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver without hesitation, dislodging the object and allowing Arian to breathe again.

Their heroic efforts in a crisis exemplify the Viking spirit of empowerment and problem-solving. Thanks to their calm and decisive actions, a life was saved. We are deeply grateful for their courage and leadership in a frightening situation. Armando and Aylya, we are incredibly proud to have you on our Viking ship!

We’d also like to give a special shoutout to Michael Martinez, who has organized a series of outstanding Advisory activities focused on Hispanic heritage and personal growth. These activities will guide our students in learning about influential Hispanic leaders and historical events, exploring their cultures, and setting personal goals. Michael's thoughtful planning is helping our students understand the value of sacrifice and dedication in achieving their aspirations.  These activities will enrich our students’ learning through education and cultural awareness.

Rewind- Viking Victories of the Week!

This week brought several impressive wins for our Viking teams!

Congratulations to our Lady Vikings on Saturday's big win over Monte Vista! Coach Lambert praised the girls for pushing through and finishing sets strong. This victory boosts their record to 8-4 overall and 2-1 in league play. Keep up the great work, ladies—we are incredibly proud of you!

We are incredibly proud of our cross-country team for their strong performance at the 8th Annual Gerald Archuleta Invitational in Antonito this past weekend.  This event holds a special place in our hearts as it honors the memory of Gerald "Tommy" Archuleta, a beloved member of the Center community. Tommy, the husband of our very own Stephanie Archuleta and the father of Javielynn—now a proud 1st grader—was a remarkable person known for his constant smile. Although Tommy taught and worked in Antonito, he was loyal to the Vikings, always cheering for us at our sporting events.  Each year, this meet is a tribute to his spirit, and we send our deepest Viking love to Stephanie, Javie… and Tommy. Thank you for always being with us in heart and spirit.

Dahir Ornelas took 2nd overall in the middle school boys’ race.  Isaac Garcia finished 15th in the middle school boys’ race.   The middle school girls had four in the top ten that helped them seal their first-place finish as a team- Avril Villagomez, Jaylah Martinez, Keira Ruggles, and Charli Martinez finished 6th, 7th, 8th, and 10th, respectively, to give their team the hard-fought win. Our HS runners are working hard and improving their times with each race!  Their hard work and dedication are showing results, and we look forward to more great performances!

Spreading Viking Spirit: The Blue Crew in Action

This past Thursday, the R&R team gathered for a productive work session to assemble Viking swag bags, an initiative from our Family, School, and Community Partnership (FSCP) team. Special thanks to Dalia Molina, Misty Lambert, Brisa Macias, and Itzel Duran for their vision and leadership on this project.

The swag bags, filled with Viking-themed goodies, will be delivered to our community partners to thank them for their support and sharing of our Viking Vision. We aim to strengthen the connection between our school and the community, recognize the businesses that have stood by us, and communicate our District Ownership Plan. By sharing our district priorities and goals, we aim to work collaboratively with families and community members to ensure the success of every student.

A massive shout-out to Alondra for coordinating all things BLUE for the swag bags and to the Blue Crew for helping put everything together. We will start delivering the bags this coming week!
