Focus on the Fabulous
Center Vikings are kicking off September with plenty to celebrate! Last week, Mr. Vigil’s Government class received a special visit from Senator Michael Bennet, who shared his extensive experience working in government at the national level. During his visit to the San Luis Valley, Senator Bennet took the time to meet with our staff and students, providing an insightful lesson on the legislative process drawn from his years of public service. Currently serving as the senior U.S. senator from Colorado, a position he has held since 2009, Senator Bennet is also an attorney, businessman, and politician. Mr. Vigil, who serves on the Alamosa City Council, made his visit possible, leveraging his connections to provide our students with this valuable real-world experience.
Friday was another exciting day for the Center School District and the community! We celebrated at the Community Park with the “Future Town” festivities, tailgating, a ribbon-cutting for our brand-new football field, and an exhilarating first game on the field.
Students, staff, and community members came together for this family-school-community partnership event. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was a highlight, with the Center Town Council and Center School Board officially opening the field. CCSD School Board President Kim Duran led the ceremony by cutting the blue ribbon.
The evening was filled with moments to cheer for as our boys showed incredible skill and determination during the game. With such a strong showing, the future of Center Vikings football looks promising!
Meanwhile, our Lady Vikings are off to a fantastic start, holding a 4-2 record. Their first three victories came against Crested Butte, Sierra Grande, and Manzanola. This past Friday, they added another win to the season, defeating Sierra Grande. The JV team won in three games, and the varsity team claimed victory in four. Great job, ladies! Let’s keep that winning momentum going!
In cross-country news, our runners recently competed at the Joe Vigil Meet in Alamosa, showcasing their hard work and determination. All runners improved their times from the week before. Avril Villagomez took 16th place!
Rewind
The Center School District is proud to offer education and services for all ages, from infants to adults, staying true to our commitment to educating everyone! Thanks to our dedicated toddler and preschool staff, led by Janet Sanchez, we provide exceptional resources for our youngest learners.
Our team is also committed to furthering their skills and education. A shining example of this is Diana Chaparro, who recently completed the Early Childhood Coaching Institute and earned her Early Childhood Coaching certificate. Diana's achievement reflects the Viking spirit of lifelong learning, and we are incredibly proud to have her on our team. Congratulations, Diana—way to go!
