Focus on the Fabulous
What a week! We started the week with the Athletic Banquet on Monday night. Congratulations to all the athletes who were recognized for their accomplishments in their respective sports. There were many great successes to celebrate throughout the evening.
On Tuesday evening, Center High School celebrated students' academic achievements at the Annual High School Evening Awards program. This was a great event that highlighted our students' hard work and successes. A huge thank you to all our community partnerships for the generous scholarships and awards that were presented to our students.
Adele Alfson, CHS Guidance Counselor, does a fabulous job coordinating the annual event. Her attention to detail is unmatched, and each year, she puts together a delectable dessert treat for all attendees to enjoy after the show. She also works hard to organize the attendance of all of the outside institutions and community partners and their generous contributions to our student's success. A special thanks to the Aldridge, Noland, Skeff, and McCormick families, Adams State University, Trinidad State, Kiwanis, Society of Women Engineers, the Viking Athletic Association, the Center Education Association, STARS, and CFSLV for their ongoing support of Center scholars.
Skoglund Middle School and Center High School students who demonstrated positive growth on their end-of-year assessments were treated to a pool party at Hooper by their principals.
Our seniors presented their portfolios on Wednesday during the culminating, end-of-the-year exit interview process. This is an amazing experience for all involved. Our seniors have worked extremely hard throughout the year in their Senior Seminar classes to assemble a diverse portfolio that includes Capstone projects, resumes, community service, accomplishments, awards, letters of recommendation, and quality work samples.
These interviews give students feedback on their work and provide students with valuable, real-world interview experience. It’s impressive to hear our students’ stories, the challenges they’ve faced, and the obstacles that they have overcome to get to this point. Our seniors make us #VikingProud.
Wednesday afternoon, our seniors did their Senior Walk around the campus so that they could be celebrated by students and staff. Seniors donned their caps and gowns as they walked through the hallways of the school. This has become an annual tradition in the Center. This is an experience that our seniors will remember and something that will motivate our younger students to look forward to in the future!
The C.N.A. pinning ceremony was held on Wednesday evening in the auditorium. The seven ladies who completed the Certified Nursing Assistant program were formally pinned by their instructor and our district nurse, Wendy Murillo. During the ceremony, students are recognized for the completion of programming and for their desire to dedicate efforts to the well-being of others. This is the second year CHS has had students complete this program successfully. This is quite an accomplishment and provides our students with more options to pursue in their post-secondary endeavors! Congratulations to Ahyari Fimbres, Devannie, Maribel, Shaneijah, Miranda, Yanelli and Shayla.
Haskin Elementary has been focused on their Habits of Character, and this month has been dedicated to Determination!
On May 9th, the Center Department of Music presented the Wonderful Music of Disney for their end-of-year performance. The audience was treated to a medley of favorite tunes from the Disney playlist. The 5th graders started the show with the Mickey March. The sixth graders kept the show going with Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. The middle school band entertained with Under the Sean and Let it Go. The High School Band finished the show with Wishing Upon a Star and highlights from The Lion King. It was a great way to wrap up the year for our band program. Congratulations, Maestro Noriega and band students!
Congratulations to our Center track athletes Ciara Paiz and Andre Meraz for making it to the state competition and finishing strong. Ciara qualified in the triple and long jump, and Andre qualified in the discus. Both of our Vikings made it to the podium and placed at the state level. Way to go, Vikings! Ciara placed 7th in the long jump and 9th in the triple, and Andre placed 8th in the discus. #VikingProud
